My name is Stephen Petty (Steve) and I would like to introduce myself as your AlphaNet Patient Services Coordinator.

I live in Colchester, CT with my wife of 52 years, Faithe. We have 2 children and 5 grandchildren.

I served 4 years with the Navy submarine service and was discharged in 1969.  From there I started working in retail management with a pharmacy chain.  After 14 years, I went into business for myself designing and remodeling independent pharmacies in the northeast, retiring in 2005.

My journey with Alpha-1 will sound very familiar to most of you.  I started seeing pulmonologists in my mid 30s and was diagnosed with asthma, chronic bronchitis and post nasal drip.  I started with a new pulmonologist in October 2005 and was diagnosed with Alpha-1 and Emphysema.  My first reaction was, “What is Alpha-1?” I started with my augmentation therapy in December 2005.  The journey has continued over the past 9 years including 7 years in the transplant program at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York. However, after remaining stable for several years, I was released from the program.

Before taking this position, I served as the Support Group leader of the Connecticut Nutmeggers. One of the things I have learned about the Alpha community from attending support group meetings, national conferences and education days is that this is one heck of a hard working family.

I look forward and am very excited about this new adventure of serving more of the Alpha-1 family.
