Hello, my name is Jason Wood and I would like to introduce myself as your AlphaNet coordinator.
I live in Coeur D Alene Idaho with my two teenagers and our dog Pete. I fill my free time with walking, biking, hiking, video games and riding my skateboard. I also love to read – biographies, mysteries, science fiction, most anything. I have worked in many different industries in my life, among them are manufacturing, wireless communication, restaurants and insurance, just to name a few. Most recently I have been a part-time science teacher for elementary aged children. By far my favorite thing about these jobs was the relationships I was able to forge along the way.
My Alpha-1 diagnosis came in 2017 at an allergy clinic after doing very poorly on a breathing test. Prior to this, I had been told by various doctors for over twenty-five years that I just had asthma. As it turns out that wasn’t the case and I was diagnosed as a ZZ Alpha. The diagnosis was bitter sweet. Finally, I had the answer and knew what was really going on, but now I had this diagnosis name of Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency that most people never heard of. Fortunately, I started augmentation therapy right away and getting knowledge about my condition has made life much easier.
I decided I would not let this diagnosis define me. I would continue to live my life as I have. I have good days and bad, but I keep living. I am looking forward to getting to know you along with helping you navigate through the resources available to you. Together, we will learn how to make the best of every day. I am here to help, one Alpha to another.
