Hi, my name is Dan Coffin and I would like to introduce myself as your AlphaNet Coordinator.
I currently live in Wayne, Maine with my lovely wife, Kathi. We have been married for 44 years and are blessed with three daughters who, with their husbands, have further blessed us with seven lively grandchildren. I recently retired from pastoral ministry after 31 years. Previous to that, I served on active duty in the U.S. Army for 14 years.
I have always been very active and was a lifelong runner, until Alpha-1 slowed me down. My diagnosis came in 2013 after seeing my pulmonologist. I wanted to discover why I was so short of breath and tired after minor physical activity. He started with a diagnosis of COPD, but with no history to justify that, he ordered a battery of tests, one of which was for Alpha-1. The test results revealed that I am a ZZ. I began infusion therapy shortly after that.
I retired from the pastorate because my physical condition was greatly affecting my ability to function in my job. Now I am blessed to be working as an AlphaNet Coordinator. My contact with the Alpha-1 Community has been a wonderful experience, and I consider it a privilege to be involved with so many positive and dedicated people.
As an AlphaNet Coordinator I want to encourage and support fellow Alphas to work toward a healthier and more fulfilling life, knowing that in spite of Alpha-1 we can choose to do so together. The AlphaNet family is made up of an incredible group of hard working and caring individuals. I want to be a positive part of this experience for other Alphas.
