Hi, my name is Andrea Hanes and I would like to introduce myself as your AlphaNet Coordinator.
I was born in Upstate New York but have been in Florida since I was a baby. I am almost a native! My immediate family includes my husband, three grown sons, one pre-teen step-son, one dog and four cats. (I just might be a “crazy cat lady”!) I’m a tech guru and previously was a Software Engineer as well as a musician, singer/songwriter. My hobbies include making jewelry, spending time with my family and all good music!
I am a ZNull Alpha, diagnosed in December 2016. I’ve had a lifetime of lung issues, persistent pneumonias, bronchitis, asthma, and more, all of which I recovered from eventually until August 2016. I inhaled a lung-full of second-hand smoke while walking into work one morning. I had a horrible asthma attack, got very sick and never really got better. Multiple visits to the Doctor left me with few answers and little improvement. After a casual comment at Thanksgiving about a relative with some genetic lung disease, I started my research. I sent away for a free test kit and here I am!
Having found Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency on my own, I know how scary the internet can be when trying to learn about this diagnosis that can lead to liver, lung disease or both. AlphaNet was the best place for me to find qualified information. Being on Augmentation Therapy has restored so much of my quality of life and has helped me in many ways. My coordinator has helped me so much through my transition into treatment and I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to share my knowledge and pay forward that help and support! Thank you in advance for allowing me to help and support you!
