Sandy Singleton

Hi, my name is Sandy Singleton and I would like to introduce myself. I recently moved back to Ashland, Oregon after spending two years with my Dad in Southern California. I have a grown daughter living in the Sacramento area who is a great young lady. I also have Bentley, my sweet little terrier. Walking in Ashland is one of my favorite things to do in addition to reading and antiquing.

I was diagnosed in 1995 by the pulmonary doctor I worked for at the time. My hands started going to sleep, and I thought it was carpal tunnel syndrome due to the amount of typing I did. The doctor told me that this symptom can have many causes and lung disease was one. My testing included a blood test for Alpha-1. I did not have carpal tunnel, but was diagnosed with Alpha-1. Eventually, I found a support group that helped educate me about my treatment options and I began to get some help. That was also the first time I met another Alpha. It was from that day on that I began my road to understanding Alpha-1 and my future.

I joined AlphaNet in 2002, and I believe I found the job in life that I was meant to do. To help educate people and give them the knowledge they need to make critical medical decisions for themselves is empowering. My goal as “the voice” on the other end of the phone line, is to help people understand Alpha-1 and how to help themselves. Knowledge really is power!
