Hi, my name is Diana Patterson and I would like to introduce myself as your AlphaNet Coordinator.
My husband and I returned to our home state of Louisiana, and now live in Colfax, after a very brief stint with AlphaNet in Miami. We have two grown sons. My youngest son had severe asthma and after a specialist helped him, I decided to go myself. The first day I walked into his office, I was so sick, the doctor thought I would die before I left. He had just returned from an out-of-state medical conference and had heard about Alpha-1, so without even telling me why, he tested me. The doctor could only find one medical article to give me explaining anything about Alpha-1. That was 1988, and I was one of the lucky ones to be diagnosed so early. The son who battled asthma doesn’t have the disorder but is a carrier.
I am a CPA and while I was with AlphaNet’s main office I worked in accounting and as Human Resources manager – but the draw back to my native state was too strong. I have been a Coordinator since 2000, after I retired as Finance Director of the local school board. My passion is horses and I ride whenever I can, including taking my horse along on family camping trips. As a kid I read everything about horses I could find – but I didn’t get my first horse until I was 30. Riding is a great way to relax.
I just opened a thank you card from an Alpha I work with; we’ve talked for so many years, she sent me some photos so I would know what she looked like. I guess one of the most rewarding parts of working with AlphaNet is that it is like one big family. You just don’t get to experience what we have anywhere else. We are also on a mission when it comes to awareness – so many still don’t know about Alpha-1.
