Bayer AG announces it is initiating a process to divest its plasma businessOctober 2, 2003 Dear Alpha-1 Community: As you are probably aware, Bayer AG recently announced it is initiating a process to divest its plasma business, which is part of the Biological Products (BP) division. I want to reassure you this announcement will in no way affect the current operations of Bayer BP and our ability to provide safe and reliable supplies of Prolastin®, Alpha-1 Proteinase Inhibitor (Human). Bayer BP remains steadfast in its continuous commitment to the Alpha-1 community. Our commitment to this community goes beyond producing Prolastin®. From creating the Bayer Direct® program to supporting critical research in Alpha-1 and expanding the screening programs for undiagnosed Alpha-1 patients, we have and always will work closely with the community to identify and address its needs. We will continue to invest significantly in our pathogen safety research. We will also maintain our support of patient activities at national, regional, and local levels. I want to reiterate that this announcement does not change our commitment to you. For over 15 years, our unwavering commitment has been to manufacture safe, effective, and reliable products. We look forward to continuing this commitment by providing Prolastin® and Bayer Direct® services to the Alpha-1 community. As always, I will continue to keep you updated as information becomes available. We understand you may have questions regarding the current situation, and we encourage you to direct any questions you may have to us by calling Bayer Direct at 1-800-305-7881 or your AlphaNet Coordinator. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, | ![]() |
