Advocacy IssuesImportant things are happening every day that affect the lives of Alphas. From major changes in healthcare delivery and funding for chronic diseases, to how oxygen is supplied on airlines, to how lungs are allocated for lung transplantation, Alphas can make an important difference in how these issues and many, many others affect their lives. Many Alphas ask but “what can I do?” or “what difference can I make?” While it’s true that by yourself it’s tough to make a difference, it is also true that “those who speak loudest get heard” or “the squeaky wheel gets the grease.” Here’s what you can do… get involved and advocate. First, find out about and educate yourself regarding the issues. Then make your opinion known and add your voice to the larger body of Alphas whose collectively loud voice can and does get heard. Watch for Advocacy Alerts issued by the Alpha-1 Association to be posted in the News Archive section of this site and take action. As advocacy issues become clearly defined AlphaNet will post a discussion of the issue on this page. For more information about Advocacy issues and how you can get involved visit the Advocacy page at Alpha-1 Association’s website.
